Thank God the thoughts you have in your head don’t come out into the world for others to hear.
Now for those of you who know me, what I am about to say won’t come as a big surprise.
I am braggadocios
See, no big revelation there but, in the spirit of honesty (which is one of my “Ten First Rules of Sales”), I should tell you that being a big blow-hard did not come naturally.
I have actually studied and worked on the fine art of bragging without sounding conceited. You should too.
You will find, as I did, that it will absolutely help your career, your relationships, and your health!
Think I am lying? Check out this picture below and see if you can pick me out. Here’s a hint, I’m the one who looks like a fly with those goggles on my face.
It was around this time when I realized that it was hard to get noticed by anyone from the opposite sex when you’re continually mistaken for a head of cabbage.
The advice I was given, of course, came from my father. Sometimes just a few perfectly placed words will stick with you forever. He said, in his little French, Jewish accent,
“Danny, if you don’t blow your own horn, there ain’t no music!”
Now he was a very literal person so he was probably thinking that talking yourself up could change the way others think of you.
As it turns out, he was a whole lot deeper than even he realized, and once again has earned the honor of this week’s tip.
Here’s the tip: Brag to yourself! Your subconscious brain will not let you become a liar. You will live up to the brag and become the person who warrants the accolades you are bestowing upon yourself. It just works!
Here’s the thing you have to also watch out for. The bad stuff you call yourself will be lived up to as well. Choose wisely!
